Basic strength training—squats, deadlifts, bench presses—undergirded the sheer physical labor of the fight scenes. The technique of properly throwing punches was key. In fact, Layne took a shine to boxing. “Half-assed, lazy punches? Gina wasn’t going to have that! Boxing was a huge part of my training and the base of Nile’s fight style,” she says, and she hopes to continue with it in a post-pandemic world.
